Beyond the Bassline: 500 years of Black British Music, at the British Library is the first major exhibition of its kind anywhere in the world. About more than just music, the exhibition tracks the places where these sounds were born and the voices of community, resistance and joy that represented it.

This exhibition conceived by Mykaell Riley and lead curator Dr Aleema Gray looked to inspire contemplation and connections between music and culture and needed a name and visual identity to capture that intention.

Our approach is always to bring the audience into the conversation. We tapped into our network and undertook qualitative consumer research within this target audience to find out what would compel audiences to visit and the barriers to them doing so.

Themes of connection, rhythm and movement informed the visual approach to convey ideas that permeate through time and space. A vibrant energetic pallet is unapologetic and aims to excite with high contrast standout. The work featured on OOH across London, print and merchandise.
